Pro-research literacy. Anti-misinformation.

Movement Educator

I’m a movement educator (yoga teacher, strength trainer) in New York City. For more than ten years, I’ve been helping people reach their goals with a holistic approach that combines principles from yoga, exercise science and published research.

One-on-one
I’ve acquired many yoga and fitness certifications in order to help people feel and move better. I’m adaptive and goal oriented. Whether you’re a beginner, are overcoming an injury or have a specific fitness objective, we start where you are and build up from there to get to where you want to go.

I have a straight-forward, empowering approach to help you get strong and feel your best. Rather than the typical fast and furious “workout”, I emphasize mindful and practical strength in movement.

In addition to strength training and yoga, I also offer assisted stretching to my clients with New York Stretch.

Myth Busting
Because I’m anti-misinformation, I like to bust myths about yoga and fitness in my spare time. In order to bring more science to yoga, I co-authored Exposing Yoga Myths and started the Yoga & Beyond podcast. Many of the episodes are still used in teacher trainings.

Continuing Education
In addition to training people one-on-one, I also lead continuing education courses about research literacy for movement professionals. Peer-reviewed research is a gold mine of reliable information and an under-utilized resource for yoga teachers. My continuing ed website, Yoga Research & Beyond, makes research available to movement pros with easy-to-read summaries of papers from myriad journals.

“What I appreciate about her is that she eschews the fast & furious workout in favor of mindful and practical strength in movement. I also noticed this morning how much firmer my butt seems lately...just sayin'..."

— Jan V.L.
